Duncan Manor was built in 1947, by a local home builder Joe Birkner, Sr. Mr. Birkner’s father, many years before the construction of Duncan Manor, had built his family home using rocks. This proved to provide a rock solid home, thus prompting Joe Birkner, Sr. to build the next generation of homes of cement. He built the home for his family. This 3,500 square foot two-story brick home featured 7 bedrooms, 4.5 bathrooms, hardwood floors on the second level, two fireplaces and a two-car detached garage. The house was built with other very unique features. The kitchen was built with glass block tiles separating a breakfast nook from the main part of the kitchen. It featured central heat and window units for cooling. In the fall of 2006, Dora Duncan was surfing the internet, saw and fell in love with the two-story stately old home located in Bay City, Texas at 1720 Elm Avenue. Wil and Dora Duncan were shown the home and made an offer the same day. At last their life long dream of operating a Bed and Breakfast was reality. Remodeling began in December 2006. The ribbon cutting for the official opening was done November 2007, one year from the date of purchase. The Duncans completely renovated the property preserving its original architecture, beauty and charm. Duncan Manor is located in a quiet community with convenient access to local power plants, city/county offices, the town’s business district, schools, churches, shopping, recreation and other necessities.
